Compare stairlift quotations on the same specification
Start by checking that both quotes solve the same problem. Record the manufacturer and model, whether the rail is straight or curved, the route and parking position, and every seat option. A manual swivel and a powered swivel are different specifications, even when the chair looks similar.
For a reconditioned lift, record its age or history and preparation. For rental, record the term and equipment offered. Ask for a drawing or clear description where a doorway, turn or landing arrangement is central to the recommendation.
Use our straight and curved guides to understand those differences before comparing the totals.
Separate included work from extra work
Check delivery, installation, demonstration and any required electrical or preparation work. Ask who is responsible for alterations, access arrangements and reinstatement. Confirm whether the total includes applicable tax and which events could change it.
A lower total may simply exclude work included by another supplier. Put each exclusion beside the price so it remains visible.
Compare support and payment terms
Ask what warranty covers parts, labour, batteries and call-outs. Check the servicing requirements and whether a maintenance plan is optional or required for particular cover. Record the support contact and the way appointments are arranged.
Then compare the deposit, payment stages, cancellation terms and proposed timing. Do not treat a verbal estimate of availability as a guaranteed installation date.
Copy this checklist into your comparison
For each supplier, fill in the following:
□ Model and new/reconditioned status
□ Rail route, side and parking position
□ Seat, swivel, footrest and folding-rail options
□ Supply and fitting included
□ Electrical or building preparation included/excluded
□ Total including VAT and quote expiry
□ Deposit, balance and cancellation terms
□ Supply lead time and fitting appointment
□ Warranty: parts, labour, call-outs, batteries
□ Service interval and maintenance cost
□ Fault contact and response arrangements
□ Removal of an old lift, if needed
A blank is a question to resolve, not a saving. Keep the accepted specification with your invoice. If two offers still differ, ask each supplier to explain the reason in plain language. See the price guide for the main cost drivers.
