FITTED BY O’CONNOR CARROLL

HomeGlide in a real home.

This installation shows HomeGlide on a carpeted straight staircase, with the chair and footrest folded at the lower landing. It is a useful way to picture the rail alongside the steps and the chair’s parking position.

Your survey checks the space needed while seated and travelling, as well as when the lift is folded. We will discuss the best arrangement for your hallway and landing.

Is HomeGlide right for your staircase?

HomeGlide is designed for one straight indoor flight without a bend. Its rail follows the steps, taking you between floors while seated. If your stairs turn through a landing or include winding steps, explore our curved stairlifts and Flow X instead.

The important question is whether the whole journey works for you: sitting down at the bottom, travelling comfortably and standing up on the landing. During your free home survey, we assess the stair route, your seated position and the space around both ends. A photograph can help start the conversation; it cannot establish a safe fit on its own.

Simple controls. A more confident routine.

HomeGlide uses a soft-touch joystick and a retractable seat belt. The design keeps the everyday controls close to the seat. Try them with the hand you intend to use and check that fastening the belt, reaching the control and getting seated feel manageable.

The redefined HomeGlide includes armrest-position detection and safety edges that stop the lift when an obstruction is detected. These features support correct use; the stairs should still be kept clear. At handover, ask for a demonstration of normal operation, parking and the steps to take if the lift stops.

HomeGlide or HomeGlide Extra?

The Extra package adds assistance with movements that can be difficult when bending or turning is uncomfortable. A powered swivel turns the seat at the top landing, and the powered footrest is linked to the seat so that folding it does not require reaching down. Extra also offers a key lock and a choice of four seat-height settings.

These are decisions to make around the person using the lift. Tell us if a stiff knee, limited reach or difficulty turning makes part of your routine harder. We can discuss the configuration to assess and show you how the relevant controls operate. Your quotation should identify the selected package and options clearly.

A practical fit for a busy hallway

A rail needs room at the bottom of the stairs as well as along the flight. If a doorway or walking route is nearby, an optional powered folding rail may be appropriate. Its suitability depends on the layout; it is not an automatic addition to every HomeGlide.

We also consider the space left for other people using the stairs and where the chair will park. At the survey, point out doors that open towards the staircase, regular furniture positions and anyone else who needs to pass. Those details help turn a product choice into a workable installation.

What determines your HomeGlide price?

Your installed quote depends on the package, rail length, folding-rail requirements, selected assistance features and any necessary preparation. Comparing two prices only makes sense when they cover the same specification and service. See our stairlift price guide for the main cost factors.

Ask us to set out supply, installation, chosen options, warranty terms and aftercare in writing. If you are considering rental or a reconditioned lift, we can discuss suitable availability separately. Do not assume every HomeGlide configuration is offered on each basis.

From the first conversation to your first journey

1. Tell us about your home. Share your Dublin area, staircase layout and the daily tasks you want to make easier. A relative or carer is welcome to join the conversation.

2. Arrange the free survey. We assess the route and transfer areas, discuss the person using the lift and explain the proposed configuration. Ask about a Ballymount showroom demonstration before deciding.

3. Review the proposal. Confirm the full installed price, any preparation and the current supply and fitting timetable. The appointment depends on the agreed specification and availability.

4. Learn your lift. Following installation, take time to practise its controls and clarify parking, charging, warranty and servicing. Keep your support contact and operating instructions somewhere easy to find.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Your HomeGlide questions, answered.

Will HomeGlide fit my narrow stairs?

Access BDD publishes a minimum staircase width of 740 mm. That is a product parameter, not a promise of fit: the survey must also check your occupied position, clearance, rail arrangement and landing transfers.

Does HomeGlide run during a power cut?

The lift travels on rechargeable batteries. Available travel during an outage depends on their condition and charge. Follow the supplied charging and parking instructions; do not rely on a fixed number of journeys.

Is HomeGlide suitable for a curved staircase?

No. HomeGlide follows a straight rail. A turning route needs another assessment; Flow X is one of the curved options supplied by O’Connor Carroll.

What weight can HomeGlide carry?

The manufacturer lists different limits for different inclines and rail configurations. The specification table shows these distinctions. We must confirm the applicable limit for the exact installation; do not use the highest figure in isolation.

Are the powered swivel and footrest standard?

They form part of the HomeGlide Extra package, rather than every HomeGlide installation. Ask for the package and any additional options to be named in your quotation.

How soon can it be installed?

We can confirm a timetable once the survey, specification and availability are known. A straight rail can simplify preparation, but the product name alone does not guarantee an installation date.
