Before removing a stairlift, establish ownership
For a rented lift, contact the rental provider: the equipment and removal arrangements are governed by the agreement. Do not sell or give away equipment you do not own. For a purchased lift, gather the model, installation date, service history and original supplier details.
If the lift is part of an estate or a property sale, establish who is authorised to arrange removal. If grant funding was involved, check the award conditions before assuming there are no restrictions.
Tell the supplier whether removal is urgent because of building work or a house move. That helps separate an availability enquiry from a confirmed collection booking.
Is a used stairlift worth anything?
There is no guaranteed resale value. Model, age, condition, service history and the cost of professional removal all affect whether another party wants it. A bespoke curved rail is particularly specific to its original staircase.
O’Connor Carroll’s published reconditioned information says it handles lifts it originally installed. That is not a promise to buy back every lift or to remove it free of charge. Give the team the details and ask what options apply to the particular unit.

Agree removal, making good and disposal separately
Use a suitably qualified installer to disconnect and remove the equipment. A lift, rail and batteries are not a DIY dismantling project. Ask what the removal price covers: labour, transport, electrical work, disposal and any repairs to fixing points or flooring.
Removing the rail may leave visible holes or marks. Restoration is not automatically part of equipment collection, so agree the expected finish in advance. Keep hallways and stairs clear for the appointment using the same access principles as installation.
If re-use is proposed, the next installation still needs its own suitability assessment. Moving a chair to another home does not transfer the original rail design or warranty automatically.
Ask about the options for your lift
O’Connor Carroll can discuss the enquiry and whether it can assist with the model and location. This page does not promise buyback, free removal or a resale offer. If moving house, ask about feasibility rather than assuming the existing rail can be reused.
