Which staircases can take a straight stairlift?
A straight stairlift follows one uninterrupted straight flight. It is usually the first option to assess when the steps run from the hall to the landing without a corner or intermediate turn. The rail is fixed to the staircase, rather than relying on the wall to support the lift.
One straight flight: explore HomeGlide.
A turn, winding steps or a half landing: compare curved stairlifts.
A door beside the first step: assess a folding rail and the door’s opening arc.
The useful measurement is clear space around the occupied chair, not just the width of an empty step. Knee clearance, seat height and room to stand at both ends belong in the survey.
HomeGlide: the straight model to explore
Our HomeGlide product guide includes a demonstration video, photographs and specifications. Access BDD describes a slim aluminium rail, joystick control and an interlocked seat belt. HomeGlide Extra adds powered assistance with the swivel and footrest.
A manual swivel requires the user to operate a lever and turn the seat at the landing. A powered swivel assists that movement. Neither should be selected from a photograph alone: try the controls and discuss the movements you find difficult. A Ballymount showroom visit is particularly useful when comparing these options.
Manufacturer reference: Access BDD HomeGlide. Confirm the exact supplied configuration in your quotation.
Compare the whole installation
A useful quotation identifies the lift, rail arrangement, chosen options and installation work. It should also explain the warranty, servicing arrangements and any extra work required. Compare the installed package rather than a headline price alone.
O’Connor Carroll can discuss new lifts, suitable reconditioned options and rental. Availability and fit need checking separately: the least expensive unit advertised elsewhere may not be suitable for your staircase.
What happens after your first enquiry?
Tell us your Dublin area, whether the staircase is one straight flight, and who will use the lift. You do not need to measure a difficult staircase yourself. The free home survey establishes the route, seating needs and preparation required.
Next, compare an itemised installed price with the model, options, warranty and support stated. A straight installation can be quicker to arrange than a bespoke curved rail, but stock and appointment availability still matter. If timing is urgent, explain the date you need access restored before committing.
For a clearer budget, read stairlift prices; for the fitting day itself, see installation and handover.
